Chronicling the Journey of the Homeyers

What I Can Do Now! April 25, 2010

Hello, Brooks here.  Mom thought since I’m 9 months old now that I could take a turn at writing a blog post to let anybody who’s interested know what I’m up to lately.  Well for starters, I just had tooth number 8 pop out.  If you look closely here you can see it on the bottom left.

I’m working REALLY hard on crawling.  I mostly like to crawl with my belly on the floor, but if I’m up on all fours and I try really hard, I can move my legs a couple of times before I collapse.  I’ve also mastered the skill of getting into a sitting position when I’m laying down.  I love that I can do this all by myself now!

One of my favorite things to do right now is try to pull up on anything I can get my hands on.  If I find something that’s just the right height, I can pull up without a problem.  There are a lot of things around my house that I can’t wait to get my hands on!  I like to spend a lot of time at this table doing important work and while I can’t yet pull all the way up on it, I can move my feet to “cruise” from my table to the couch!  Here I am taking an important call.

I like to ‘talk’ a lot.  My favorite sound to make is ‘b’ but I can do lots of others.  I love anytime that my dog Max comes around.  He lets me practice my pulling up on him!  Here are some pictures of me being silly with my daddy.

Thanks for visiting our blog.  We hope you keep coming back to see what we’re up to!

Puppy Love April 15, 2010

It’s been a fairly low-key few weeks at our house.   Matt has been busy with meetings most every night for the past two weeks so Brooks and I have been laying pretty low.  We also seem to all finally be well after suffering from stomach bugs and flu-like symptoms.  Hopefully our house is bug free now.  One afternoon last week Matt came home early from work before his meeting that night so he could hang out with us for an hour or so.  He said he had a surprise, so we all hopped in the car to find out what it was.  We headed over to Rusty and Lane Freeman’s house to find 8 adorable black lab puppies!  Matt thought it would be fun to let Brooks play with them and he was secretly hoping I would let him bring one home with us (no such luck there!)  It was super cute watching them crawl all over Brooks, however, he was most taken by the Freeman’s daughter Baleigh.  Lucky for me he was kind of oblivious to the puppies most of the time so I didn’t feel too guilty for not bringing one home!

On Tuesday of this week Matt and Brooks got to spend the day with Matt’s grandmother, Mam-maw, who is visiting Camp Buckner with a group from her church in Longview.  It was no fun having to work all day knowing these guys were having fun at home, but judging from the pictures it looks like they had a pretty special time!

One exciting new development this week is that Brooks has begun a pseudo crawl!  It’s sort of a combination army crawl/worm but he is mobile!  He seems to be most motivated to move when challenged with a stack of blocks to knock over!  One of these days I’ll figure out how to post videos on here so we can share all of these new tricks!

Month 8, Easter and a Bluebonnet Success April 6, 2010

It’s been a busy few weeks at the Homeyer house! Mr. Brooks hit the 8 month mark a few weeks ago.  Some of his latest skills include pulling up to his knees…not quite all the way yet.  He can push up on all fours in a crawl position and rock, but he’s yet to take off.  I think he wants to pretty bad because he just ends up rolling back and forth before getting frustrated…maybe soon he’ll figure it out.  He loves to clap these days, and if you’re willing to dish out praise for something he’s done he’s happy to celebrate with you in this way.  Sometimes he even tries to lure you into praise party by doing something, clapping and giving you a look that says, “Don’t you think I did good?”  Yesterday we enjoyed opening day of Major League Baseball and there was lots of reason to clap as we watched the Texas Rangers win their season opener!

Brooks has also gotten pretty good at maneuvering finger foods from tray to mouth.  He even became a meat-eater this month and now has 7 teeth which he loves to flash.

We had an exciting first Easter with the little man.  It all started Thursday when Brooks had his first Easter egg hunt with his class at daycare.  Since this consisted primarily of all the parents carrying the babies around and putting the eggs in the baskets after trying out hardest to get the kids to pick the eggs up, I was sure to warn all the other parents of my competitive spirit and quickness in an Easter egg field.  I think Brooks and I did well.  We came away with nine shiny, marshmallow and puff filled eggs.  Here we are in action and Brooks with all his buds and teachers. (We do normally put pants on the boy when he leaves the house, but he had a blowout about 5 minutes before the hunt started.)

We spent Easter weekend with both of our immediate families.  We always enjoy getting them both together and appreciate their willingness to share Brooks with each other.  After church Sunday, we plopped Brooks in this field of Bluebonnets next to our house.  We had tried this previously and it ended up similar to the pumpkin patch scenario last fall.  Brooks decided he would cooperate this time and we got a ton of cute shots.  I’ll spare you all of them, but I have to share a few at least.

The Homeyers all dawned our BU gear in preparation to support the Lady Bears that night.

Here are the Graf siblings!

It was a great weekend!  These two boys were pooped after all the fun!
